What Is Antibiotic Resistance?

What Is Antibiotic
Resistance?

Bacteria develop strategies to prevent antibiotics from killing them. This is known as antibiotic resistance and is considered to be a major threat to human health as any simple infections and standard medical procedures will become potentially deadly again without the ability to use antibiotics.

In terms of TB this has resulted in several strains (sub-populations) becoming resistant to one or more of the drugs commonly used for treatment. At present 6% of all TB cases are caused by extremely drug resistant TB which is almost impossible to treat.
